Home

I got done in Salt Lake City around 12:30 on Friday, and I had planned to be there until at least 5:00 to make sure I got everything done. There was a flight leaving at 1:30, so I went as fast as possible and was able to get to the airport in time to beg for stand by.

I was flying US Airways bc it was cheaper than American, and the US Airways guy at the gate told me it would cost 50 dollars to do stand by... Actually, at first he said 25, and then he changed it to 50. I think he was making it up. Since when does it cost money to do stand by?

Anyway, I was like, OK, just put me on the earlier flight. My ticketed flight didn't leave until after 6:00. So he typed away on his computer, and after about 10 minutes, he was like, sorry, I can't get you home any earlier. I was supposed to get home at 11:18 PM! And I was like, are there not any seats on this flight to Phoenix? And he said that this flight had plenty of seats, but the one in Phoenix was oversold by 7!! And I told him that I wanted to get on stand by for both, and I'd take my chances in Phoenix. He said, "good luck!"

So, he didn't charge me the fee, since he couldn't "guarantee I'd get home any earlier." I really think he was making up the rules as he went along. I got on the 1:30 flight and landed in Phoenix around 2:00. So there was a 3:05 Austin flight that was oversold. I checked in at the gate to make sure I was on stand by (who knows what that Salt Lake City guy was typing on the computer.) She said I was, and then she kind of chuckled and said the flight was oversold by 7. She thought I was stupid for checking in, I'm sure.

So then she made an announcement that they need 5 volunteers to give up their seats in exchange for round trip vouchers and meal/drink tickets. People volunteered, and then they started boarding. So the entire flight has boarded, and I was just waiting. Finally, she said my name, and I went up there, and she was all frantic and said "go now, I got you on, go fast!" I'm not even sure how, but somehow I made it home on a flight that was oversold. I got home 4 hours early and was SOOO happy!

The weekend was great! I saw steph on Saturday, did tons of shopping (including 2 new laptop bags!) and saw Beauty and the Beast at Zilker Park w/ Jen on Saturday night. So good! I really don't want to go to work tomorrow. :(
